Craig set to lap up Lisbon memory

CELTIC legend Jim Craig will once more board a plane bound for a European Cup final in Lisbon, 47 years on from the Bhoys' historic triumph over Inter Milan.

The journey will be poignant as the surving members of the squad recall those who have passed on, but the destination will evoke marvellous memories of the day Celtic were crowned kings of Europe.

The Parkhead club have invited members of that team, along with the relatives of the players and management no longer with us, to Portugal as Europe's showpiece event returns to the country for the first time since 1967.

City rivals Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will do battle next Saturday at the Stadium of Light and former right-back Craig is excited about the occasion.

"I'm very much looking forward to going, it's just a shame we're not playing this time. It was a great day in all our careers," he told the Celtic website.

"The setting was good too, the Estádio Nacional, I know it's not there this time but in 1967 it was a stadium, more or less specially designed for the purpose and it was very scenic.

"The boys' company is always good with plenty of laughs and this time our families are going so that makes it a nice occasion, but we'll all get on the park and relive certain moments.

" I was there with Bertie Auld last year again and I'm sure I'll be asked to recreate the penalty kick incident once again.

"At least myself and Tommy Gemmell can recreate the goal because I laid on the pass to him.

"It's celebrating perhaps the biggest moment in Celtic's history and let's hope it's not too long until we have another one like it."
