By way of a step in the right direction, the defender could make his Scotland Under-21 debut tonight in a friendly against Portugal.

Fraser was an unused sub when Watt drilled in his late goal which clinched the famous Champions League 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League.

Now Fraser, who has still to make his SPL debut, will use Watt as inspiration as he looks to establish himself.

He said: "It was a great experience being on the bench against Barcelona.

"Everyone was buzzing. We beat the best team in the world and, hopefully, we can reach the last 16.

"As soon as I saw Tony running through on goal I knew the ball would end up in the back of the net.

"I was delighted for him. He has shown what young players can achieve.

"You just need to be patient and when the chance comes, I'm going to be ready.

"The manager has shown that if you do well he'll throw you in. You just need to do the right things on the training field and reserve games."

Fraser has played for Celtic in glamour friendlies against Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao and made his Hoops debut last season as a sub against Rennes in the Europa League.

He knows he faces a tough ask to dislodge the likes of Kelvin Wilson and Efe Amrose and could be ready to go out on loan to gain experience.

"Playing for Scotland at any age can enhance my chances. Whether it's the Under 19's or 21's, there are always people there watching.

"But the thing for me now is to keep playing well, whether that's with Celtic or Scotland."
