GEORGIOS SAMARAS has given Celtic fresh hope of bringing him back to Parkhead after Lyon became the latest club to receive a knockback from the Greek World Cup star.

Celtic boss Ronny Deila has again pledged to explore the possibility of re-signing Samaras, who left Scotland in the summer claiming he'd not been offered a new deal.

After an impressive World Cup campaign, Samaras has spent the summer turning down offers.

French side Lyon were the latest to be snubbed as Samaras didn't think they would be competitive in the French League.

The 29-year-old rejected a £5.5million-a-year, three-season deal from a Chinese club and has said no to £25,000 a week to play in Turkey with Besiktas and £30,000 a week to move to Lokomotiv Moscow.

He's been linked with Southampton, Sevilla and Hamburg, but Celtic remain in the hunt for the ex-Manchester City ace.
