GARY Mackay-Steven today told Celtic boss Ronny Deila he will cope with the white-hot atmosphere in the San Siro if he is picked to play against Inter Milan.

Mackay-Steven played superbly for the Scottish champions in the first leg of the Europa League last 32 showdown with Inter at Parkhead last week.

The winger helped his team fight back from being 2-0 behind to earn a 3-3 draw and keep their hopes of going through to the next round alive.

The 24-year-old, who signed from Dundee United for £250,000 in the January transfer window, has limited European experience.

But he is confident he will handle the occasion once again if Deila gives him the nod to face the Serie A cracks here in the San Siro this evening.

He said: "I try not to think about the occasion.

"If you think about how much it means to so many people, it could maybe faze you a bit.

"But I never do that. I treat it as just another game. Yes, it's a big one.

"But at the end of the day, it's 11 men v 11 men, the ball is still round and the goals are the same size.

"You have to treat Inter Milan the way you would treat any other team.

"Every game for Celtic is massive so the expectation is always there to go out, perform and win.

"That will be no different against Inter and I will prepare the same as always and try to go out and play well."

Mackay-Steven added: "Last week did give me confidence.

"It's what you dream about when you are younger - to play in these massive games against teams of the calibre of Inter Milan.

"I've been lucky enough to be able to have that experience. I did it last week, I got a little taste for it and I want more.

"I can't wait for the San Siro and I'm relishing every moment of it.

"I am sure I will enjoy the experience if I get selected by the manager."

Despite only playing in two away matches in Europe with former club United, Mackay-Steven is confident he knows how to approach this Inter game.

And he has told his Hoops team mates they can't afford to give goals away as cheaply as they did in the first leg at Parkhead and expect to progress to the last 16.

He said: "I played for Dundee United away from home twice in the Europa League - against Slask and Dinamo Moscow.

"We lost heavily in Russia and I don't want a repeat of that.

"Are there lessons to be learned from that? Yeah, probably - we gave away a lot of cheap goals.

"Ultimately we didn't take the chances we created either and that can happen in Europe against top opposition.

"Inter Milan are a big club and we saw in the first leg that if we gave them any opportunity, they will punish us. We need to look to cut out any mistakes as a team."
