STEFAN JOHANSEN saw enough from plucky Astra in their 2-1 defeat to Celtic to believe the Romanians will take points in this competition.

He just wants to make sure it is not from them.

The Hoops hero - who scored what turned out to be the winner after Stefan Scepovic had broken the deadlock 17 minutes from time - reckons Celtic have had all the warning they need ahead of their visit to Giurgiu in a fortnight.

A win there against the side who have not taken a point from their first three matches in Group D would put Ronny Deila's side on the brink of qualification.

In fact, if Salzburg follow up their 4-2 defeat of Dinamo Zagreb last night with another win over the Croatians two weeks from now, both the Austrians and Celtic will be through to the knock-out round with two games to spare.

But Johansen expects another battle in Romania and accepts that the Hoops can, and must, play much better than they have done in their home victories over Zagreb and Astra.

The midfielder said: "To be fair, it was not our best game. But, good teams win when they are having only okay days.

"Football is about winning and we won.

"That's what we will take with us as we go forward.

"There is always room for improvement. But, when you win, everyone is happy.

"We should have killed the game off at 2-0 up, but they got a goal. However, we saw it out."

The bonus for Celtic was discovering that joint group leaders Salzburg had defeated Zagereb to leave the Croatians trailing on three points.

But, Johansen insisted: "I don't care that much what other teams do. I only care what we do.

"We went out to win against Astra, and we did.

"Hopefully, we can get another three points in our next match, in Romania.

"It has been a good start for us in this competition, with seven points from a possible nine.

"But, we are not complacent. Astra are a decent side. They are good defensively and have some good players on the ball.

"It's a close group. But all I'm doing is focusing on what we do."

Slipping up against Astra at Celtic Park would have been a serious blow to Celtic's hopes.

But Johasnen denies they were on a hiding to nothing because, unlike most other people, the Hoops players did not underestimate their opponents.

He said: "We knew before the game that it was going to be difficult.

"We have studied Astra and knew they were a decent side.

"We also agreed we would need to be patient, then the chances would come and we would have to be ready to take them.

"We did that.

"It is always good to score early goals, but I was not aware how late it was before we actually got the first.

"Scepo got it for us before I got my goal.

"He deserved to score. He's a good guy.

"He's not played a lot for us, but he works very hard in training.

"So it was well deserved that he got his first goal for the club, and the team is very happy for him."
