ADAM MATTHEWS and James Forrest combined to set up Celtic's winning goal against Dundee, the Welshman delivering an inch-perfect cross for John Guidetti to finish.

The Swede will be missing when Salzburg come to Glasgow on Thursday.

But Matthews is hopeful he can again link up with Forrest to create the chances which others will convert to put the Hoops into the Europa League last 32.

He said of the flying winger, who returned to action after three months out in the win over Aberdeen before the international break: "It's great to have James back.

"He showed against Dundee exactly what he can do for the team, and he's only going to get better with more games.

"Hopefully, he can keep playing like that and keep proving himself to people."

As a defender, Matthews knows exactly what it is about Forrest's game which can strike so much fear into the opposition.

"James brings pace, has a trick and can cross the ball," he said. "He's the only out-and-out winger we've got. Wakaso Mubarak has come in and he's a similar sort of player.

"But, like Anthony Stokes, he likes going inside. The difference is James likes getting at the full-back and getting crosses in."

Matthews revealed they have spent more time together than either would have liked in the treatment room in recent weeks, and is much happier linking up with Forrest on the pitch.

He said: "We've both been injured so we've spent a lot of time together recently. It's nice to have him back."

Matthews hopes it is going to be full steam ahead on Thursday against Group D leaders Salzburg, but warned: "We know from the away match the threats they pose.

"We've got to be on our game and play better than we did against Dundee or else they will turn us over.

"We don't want it to go down to the last match. We'd like to get the job done as soon as possible."
