Sir Alex Ferguson gave Gary Hooper a glowing report after Tuesday night's win over Dundee United – but Celtic need not fear an offer from the Manchester giants

Fergie was a guest of the club prior to giving the eulogy at Sean Fallon's funeral on Wednesday morning and Neil Lennon has revealed that the United boss was impressed by Hooper, who netted a brace in the 4-1 victory.

It was widely reported that Ferguson was using the game to take a closer look at Hoops midfielder Victor Wanyama, but Lennon was adamant that the Kenyan was not discussed – and nor was there a hint that a bid would be forthcoming for the 21-year-old.

"He came in to see us afterwards and he was in great form," said the Celitc boss.

"Sir Alex spoke to us for 30 or 40 minutes about football but he didn't put any bids in.

"We talked about Juventus. He didn't go into great detail but we asked him about Paul Pogba who was at United before going to Juventus so he gave us a few steers on him.

"He didn't speak about Victor. He spoke about Gary but told us that he was well looked after in the centre-forward areas but he was still very impressed with his performance."

Celtic have had no further offers from Norwich this week after their second bid of £5.5m for Hooper was turned down on Tuesday.

And Lennon remains optimistic that the club can hold on to the English forward until the end of a campaign.

"He is happy here," said Lennon of his striker. "The contract is still there if he wants it. He has 18 months to go and if he is still here after the window then we'll review it again in the summer.

"I don't know why he didn't sign it back in October because he would have been a little bit richer over the last few months and the situation would be the same.

"We want him here for the Juventus game, for the league and for the cups and then we'll review it.

"We won't stand in his way if the right club comes in and the money is right."

Lennon also revealed that Celtic are keen to add to their squad.

"Things will hot up over the next three or four days," he said.

"We'll be sitting here at 11pm waiting on it to close and we might do a bit of business ourselves.

"We are working on a few things and we'll see what is around the corner for us.

"We want to bring guys in because the qualifiers (for Europe) are so early in July.

"It is difficult to bring someone in over the summer and expect them to hit the ground running in a matter of 3 or 4 weeks.

"If we bring someone in now then it gives them three months to bed in.

"The squad is good and I don't think we need to tinker too much."
