SOUTHAMPTON boss Mauricio Pochettino refuses to give up in his £12.5million bid to land Victor Wanyama.

The south coast club’s chances have been boosted by the news main signing rivals, Cardiff, have given up in the race to land the Kenyan.
The Celtic midfielder’s agents have rejected the terms initially offered by Southampton after the Hoops accepted their transfer fee.
Wanyama has now flown out to Germany to meet up with the rest of the Celtic squad on their pre-season tour.
But his stay could be short-lived if Pochettino has his way.
Cardiff manager Malky Mackay is currently in Switzerland with the Premier League new boys but has kept in close contact with the men who hold the purse strings in Cardiff.
Now, after having their offer to raise their initial £10m bid by another £1m rejected by Celtic, the Bluebirds are reported to have taken their money off the table.
Southampton have always been in pole position because they have met the Hoops’ valuation of the player.
And Pochettino has made it crystal clear Wanyama is top of his high-end shopping list.
He said: “It could happen. We have certain positions that we want to reinforce. I’m confident our goals will be met.”
Pochettino has already signed Dejan Lovren for £8.5m from Lyon and also wants to bring in Inter Milan striker Leandro Damiao and midfielder Ever Banega from Valencia.
But 22-year-old Wanyama is a key part of the plan he has laid out for the future.
He said: “We manage a lot of information about very good players. One of them is Damiao, also Banega and also Wanyama.
“The main thing is that we, as a club, are managing when these negotiations happen.
“We’re managing when these players are going to be signed and how we sign them.
“Our goals are very clear. Our squad is really good already, but we just want to bring in two or three players that reinforce key areas in the squad to become an even better team.”
Neil Lennon is resigned to losing Wanyama, but is delighted at the way his own new signings have settled in. The Hoops boss
predicts big things from Amido Balde and Virgil van Dijk, who both played against Sevastopol in the first of their pre-season games on Wednesday.
Lennon told Celtic TV: “You can see what Amido Balde is going to bring you. He’s a bit raw, as we know, but he has got great power.
“The two best chances fell to him on Wednesday. He didn’t finish them off, but we can see what kind of threat he can be. “
Van Dijk is also pleasing the manager, who believes it is already clear he was £2.6m well spent.
Lennon said: “Ever since Virgil has come in he has looked like a superb player.”
Central defender Steven Mouyokolo is expected to sign a 12-month contract this weekend, and should get another run out against FC Cluj tomorrow night.
Lennon also wants to include fit-again James Forrest, Anthony Stokes, Georgios Samaras and Mikael Lustig against Cluj.
