Stefan Johansen today urged his Celtic team-mates not to be "lazy" this summer as they head off on holiday.

The SPFA Player of the Year is mindful of the responsibility that players have as the club look to engineer a way into the group stages of the Uefa Champions League next season.

It is a short break for the squad, particularly those who are on international duty in June, and Johansen believes that can be to Celtic's benefit - assuming the players do the right things.

"The most important thing is that we use the holiday's right, we don't just be lazy and lay on the beach all day," he said.

"You know the games are coming up early so you need to be fit and be ready for it. It should take one or two weeks and we'll be back to football fitness.

"You can switch off from football. The holiday here compared to Norway is nothing, it's maybe three weeks if we're playing for our national teams, but in Norway it's almost one and a half months.

"You just need to use the time to rest your head, that's the most important thing because the physical part shouldn't be a problem for us."

And Johansen has also urged his team-mates to take heart from the manner in which they performed against Inter Milan in the knockout stages of the Europa League this season.

"We've shown against Inter that we have that level," he said.

"It'll be a few months from playing them until we play in the Champions League, the main thing is we need to focus on ourselves and if we do the things we want to do as good as we can I think we have a very good chance to get in."

Meanwhile, the midfielder reckons goalkeeper Craig Gordon has proved himself to be every bit as important to Celtic as Fraser Forster was.

Gordon was named this week as the Scottish Football Writers' Player of the Year and Johansen believes he was well worthy of the accolade.

"Craig is a very good choice, I was surprised he wasn't on the shortlist for the PFA one," said the Norwegian.

"But there could have been so many of us, Broony could have been there, Virgil could have one or the players from the other teams that did really well. I was very proud to get it with the competition there.

"I told Craig it's well deserved as he's had a great season and it's fantastic what he's done for us. He has been a huge factor for us to get the double and he did well in Europe.

"Fraser and Craig are probably the two best I've played with and it's close between them.

"When we sold Fraser you think it will be hard to replace him, but Craig has done really well."
