Celtic have been rewarded with a mouth-watering tie against Inter Milan in the knock-out stages of the Europa League.

The Parkhead side will host the Italians in Glasgow on February 19 before heading to the San Siro for the return leg a week later.

It is a game that will evoke memories of Celtic’s famous 1967 triumph against Inter Milan in Lisbon, although the teams have met competitively since then – the Italians put Celtic out of the 1972 European Cup semi-final after a penalty shoot-out.

However, Hoops boss Ronny Deila had revealed he was hoping for a glamour tie in order to fill Celtic Park to capacity – and he will not be disappointed with a draw against the prestigious Serie A side.

And nor will he feel getting past Inter is too big an ask for his side.

Certainly, the pedigree of the Italian side is undisputed, they are currently in the midst of a mediocre campaign domestically. They have clocked up only four league wins all season and are currently in twelfth position in their home league having failed to win any of their previous five league outings.

They sacked boss Walter Mazzarri in November and brought former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini back for a second spell in Milan. Mancini enjoyed a successful first stint at the club between 2004-2008, winning the Italian title three times.

With the January transfer window looming, Robeto Mancini will have the opportunity to strengthen his squad.
