CELTIC began their Europa League campaign with a 2-2 draw against Red Bull Salzburg in Austria.

Debut Bhoy Mubarak Wakaso opened the scoring for the Hoops with a superb left-foot drive in the 14th minute, but the home side hit back through de Carvalho Alan on 36 minutes in the Group D showdown.

Celtic skipper Scott Brown put Ronny Deila's side in front again on the hour mark, however Jonathan Soriano scored his 14th goal in 16 games this season to grab a point 12 minutes from time.

Ghanaian winger Wakaso, on loan from Rubin Kazan, was the only change to Deila's side which started in the 2-1 home Premiership win over Aberdeen at the weekend.

He replaced Aleksandar Tonev, who dropped to the bench in the Salzburg Stadion as Stefan Scepovic led the line in his second appearance for the Hoops.

Craig Gordon produced a number of superb stops on the night, and kept the Hoops in front with a stunning fingertip save to deny Ramalho in 34 minutes, but was helpless two minutes later when an Alan drive took a wicked deflection off Efe Ambrose and looped over him and into the net.

Seven minutes into the second half Gordon produced another terrific one-handed save to deny Alan after he had turned on the edge of the penalty area and rifled in a shot.

And, on the hour mark, it was Gordon again to the rescue with a brilliant double save to keep the home side out.

Brown - who had picked up a first-half yellow card - restored Celtic's lead when his 25-yard volley was deflected past Gulacsi in the Salzburg goal.

Anthony Stokes replaced Scepovic with 20 minutes remaining, but it was Salzburg who drove forward and Alan saw his effort shave Gordon's right-hand upright.

Deila then brought Tonev on for Kris Commons with 12 minutes remaining but, before he had kicked the ball, the home team levelled again, this time Gordon being unable to prevent Soriano's thumping 30-yard free-kick bulging the back of the net.

Celtic were dealt a blow when Stefan Johansen limped off in stoppage time to be replaced by Beram Kayal.

In the other group match, Dinamo Zagreb thrashed FC Astra 5-1.
