CHARLIE ADAM has pleaded with Rangers manager Walter Smith to give him a second chance at the club.

The midfielder was loaned out to Blackpool last season after the Ibrox boss decided he didn't fit into his first-team plans.

But Adam is set to return to Murray Park next week to begin pre-season training and wants to remain at the double winners.

Several championship side have him on their wanted list with Blackpool and Barnsley leading the race for his signature.

Rangers could cash in on the player and bank around £500,000 from moving him on but, Adam would prefer not to go. He said: "I have three years left on my contract and I'd love to see it out.

"I'm only thinking about being as fit as possible when Rangers start next week.

"I really want to settle down with one club, preferably Rangers.

"But if I am going to struggle for a starting place, I really will have to think seriously about my future."

Smith is believed to be targeting a left-sided midfielder for the new season, which could spell the end for Adam.

It's believed the manager will outline his plans to several players at the start of pre-season training and make it known if they are not in his first-team plans.
