A TRAINING package to help those who look after children in care has been launched by the Scottish Government.
The scheme, which includes a hard-hitting DVD showing one youngster's journey through the system, is one of three new measures that aim to improve the educational experience of children in care.
Children's Minister Adam Ingram said the moves would help such youngsters become "happy, successful and confident individuals with a positive future".
In addition to the training package, ministers also want each educational and residential child care establishment to have a key individual who will champion the needs of children in care and ensure that services meet their needs.
The Government also unveiled the final report into local pilot schemes which developed ways to improve the educational achievements of children in care.
Mr Ingram said: "We have a responsibility to make sure all our children and young people have the same chances in life.
"We have also issued guidance to clarify the roles of senior managers to support the educational needs of children in care and we are publishing research into local authority pilot programmes looking at a variety of ways to achieve this."
"These three measures will help all of our looked-after children and young people and care leavers lead the lives that they aspire to - to be happy, successful, confident individuals with a positive future."
