RUBBLE from demolished buildings will be "recycled" as building material for the M74 extension.
More than 500,000 tonnes of aggregate will be used from buildings including two 23-storey blocks of flats in Stirlingfaulds Place which were demolished last year, sites in Sighthill and Royston and the former Hoover factory in Cambuslang.
The material will be used in embankments along the five-mile route, being built at a cost of £445million, with an additional £12m set aside for possible treatment of mine works.
Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson said he was delighted to see "innovative practices" being used by the M74 contractor Interlink M74 JV.
He said: "It's fitting that part of the old Glasgow will help shape its economic future."
