A GLASGOW MP has blamed teenage mums for bringing up a new underclass'.

Tom Harris, Labour MP for Glasgow South, claimed in his internet blog young mums were a drain on society.

In an astonishing tirade he also accused the Government of showing a lack of moral leadership.

Mr Harris said: "I'm a Labour MP, so some will undoubtedly be surprised and shocked that I'm writing this. But I can no longer pretend that the army of teenage mothers living off the state is anything other than a national catastrophe."

The MP, left, also insisted teenager girls should not be collecting benefits or having underage sex.

The ex-transport minister added: "They become pregnant as they have absolutely no ambition for themselves.

"They have been indoctrinated with the lie that they'll never amount to anything, and have fulfilled that prophesy by making no effort to achieve any qualification."

Mr Harris raised the issue in his blog, called And Another Thing, after a teenager was given the bed next to his wife, Carolyn, in hospital after the birth of their son Reggie.

Green MSP Patrick Harvie today accused Mr Harris of "loathsome moralising".

He said: "Not a word about sex education or the rights of the women Tom is so keen to judge."
