THE team behind the Athletes' Village has picked up a 14th major award for the development.

Developer City Legacy has won 13 top places and one commendation in areas such as regeneration, design, sustainability, partnerships, innova-tion and green issues.

The most recent is the Saltire Society award for a large scale housing development.

The awards celebrate innovation and excell-ence in house building and place-making.

Local Government and Planning Minister Derek Mackay said: "The Scottish Govern-ment's support for the Saltire Society's Hous-ing Design Awards recognises their long-standing importance in helping to raise the quality of Scotland's built environment.

"The Saltire Society recognises people don't just need great housing - they need great housing that is part of a great place."

Once the Games are over, the village's 700 properties will be refitted and given to housing association and private owners.

They were built by City Legacy, a consor-tium of CCG, Cruden, WH Malcolm and Mactaggart and Mickel.

City Legacy director Ed Monaghan said: "One award is great but 13 outright wins and one commendation is phenomenal.

"We may not be competing in the Games but each one of these awards feels like a gold medal for everyone involved in the plann-ing and construction of the village.

"It has been a fantastic project and we hope the athletes will enjoy the facilities just as much as the families who will live in the community for gen-erations to come.

"Receiving each of these awards has been a tremendous honour but the true reward for us will be to see the dream of developing a thriving and vibrant community in the heart of Glas-gow's East End come to fruition when the first of the families move into their new homes."

Archie Graham, Glasgow City Council's Commonwealth Games spokesman, said: "It is pleasing to see yet more recognition for the fantastic Athletes' Village, soon to be a memorable home for the athletes and a new neighbourhood for the city.

"I am sure the residents will feel their new homes are worth all these accolades when they move in."
