Q. I'd like to attend the free sporting events. What events are on?

A. More tickets for the Games are being released daily. You can also see some great sport by attending the Triathlon, Mountain Bike Trails, Marathon, Cycle Time Trial or Cycle Road race which are unticketed.

Road events days are the busiest of the Games so pick an event that's near to where you live or work or that passes close by.

l Triathlon - Strathclyde Country Park on Thursday July 24 and Saturday July 26.

l Mountain Bike Trail - Tuesday July 29 at Cathkin Braes near East Kilbride.

l Marathon - Sunday July 27 and the route goes through the City Centre and South Side of Glasgow.

l Cycle Time Trial - Thursday July 31 from the City Centre and out to East Dunbartonshire and North Lanarkshire.

l Cycle Road Race - Sunday August 3 going from the City Centre and out to the West End.

Q. How do I get there and what should I expect on the day?

A. When you are travelling to the event, head to the closest point on the route to you - by spreading out across the route you'll get a better view and keep up to date on the sporting action by tuning in to Commonwealth Radio 107.9.

Walking or cycling will be one of the quickest ways to travel during the Games or hopping on a local bus might be a good idea for slightly longer journeys, but whatever way you wish to travel, make sure you plan ahead. Set off early and be prepared to wait. Make sure you bring supplies - water, food, sun cream and a waterproof jacket.

When you get to the event, make sure you don't stand on the course or take selfies with your back to the athletes - this is a major safety risk for spectators and athletes.

Also follow instructions from stewards at all times - they are there to keep you and the athletes safe.

Q. I'm not planning on attending any of the road events, how will the events affect my travel?

A. There will be additional road closures and parking restrictions on and around the road course routes. Maps are available detailing the extent of the closures, to check these out go to GetReadyGlasgow.com

Roads will close on and around the route on:

l Sunday July 27:

Marathon - roads closed between 3am to early evening or when safe to do so

l Thursday July 31:

Cycle Time Trial - roads closed between 3am to early evening or when safe to do so

l Sunday August 3:

Cycle Road Race - roads closed between midnight to late evening or when safe to do so.

Q. What is the best way for me to travel on road event days?

A. You won't be able to cross the route by car or any other motor vehicle.

Walking or cycling all or part of your journey could be the quickest and easiest way to get about but plan ahead. If you need to cross the course, you can only cross on foot at set points.

If you are cycling you will need to get off and walk your bike. Follow the instructions of the stewards. Public transport heading towards the route will be significantly busier than usual so allow extra time for your journey.

The rail network in particular will be busy so it might be worth considering getting on a bus that day but be aware of diversions.

If it's an option, think about working from an office closer to your home or work from home on these days. Given how busy travel and transport will be, we'd urge people to think about how essential their journey is and to consider making their journey after the road restrictions have been lifted.
