PLANS have been drawn up to make sure the Evening Times is delivered despite Commonwealth games traffic congestion.

Menzies Distribution, a major newspaper wholesaler and logistics firm, has drawn up a blueprint to make sure readers can still get their hands on the city's favourite newspaper.

The company's logistics plan includes extra delivery vehicles, constant monitoring of traffic congestion to help bypass the city's busiest routes, analysing sales data to make certain retailers get enough newspapers and magazines to meet demand.

Glasgow is preparing to welcome 8000 athletes, officials and VIPs to the Games along with another 6000 journalists from around the world and a million spectators.

Organisers have also identified a Games Route Network which highlights roads which will be affected by diversions, delays and closures when the Games are held over 11 days in July and August.

Menzies reckon 600 customers - mainly stores, corner shops and supermarkets - who are likely to be affected especially in Glasgow's East End and areas to the west.

But the wholesaler is determined to make sure it's "business as normal" and is even setting up a Games control centre at its HQ in Linwood, Renfrewshire.
