A YOUNG dad who took a selfie of himself and Sir Chris Hoy in Glasgow said he was amazed to read that the cycling legend's wife had been "shocked" by the incident.

Asim Baig, 29, said he took the opportunity to take the photo when he spotted Sir Chris sitting in a taxi at some traffic lights in the city centre on Sunday.

He was stunned to hear Sir Chris then talk of his wife's shock at the incident in recent TV coverage.

Asim, who lives in the south side of Glasgow, said: "It wasn't a scary experience for them. He was in a taxi and I knocked on the window to ask if I could take a selfie. He gave me the thumbs up."

He said he asked the taxi driver to open the door and leaned in to take the picture.

He added: "I wasn't infringing on his space or making him feel uncomfortable. His wife didn't seem bothered. The opportunity arose so I took it."

Asim, who had been at the marathon earlier in the day, said he took the photo to show his son Aaron.

He said: "Sir Chris is one of our heroes. He's bigger than the Queen!

"I'm not happy with the way it's been portrayed. It was friendly and all over in a second. He had his thumbs up."
