DAVID Rudisha has declared himself "satisfied" with his display in the 800 metres - despite losing to Nijel Amos of Botswana on the finishing line.

The Kenyan, who won the Olympic title with a world record time in London two years ago, looked to be cruising to a gold medal at Hampden last night.

But 20-year-old Amos stole in front of his feted rival on the final straight in a dramatic finish to triumph with a time of 1 minute 45.18 seconds.

Rudisha, though, did not race from March last year to May this year after undergoing surgery on his knee and revealed he had not done enough preparation to triumph.

He said: "I am happy with the time that I achieved. Obviously I would have liked to have won the race and the gold medal here.

"But it has been a tough season for me. I didn't have enough time to prepare for these Games. I missed a lot of training.

"I am satisfied with how I did. Tactically, the race was fine. But I am feeling my body now because I didn't do enough preparation. I know I'm lacking something."

Edinburgh runner Guy Learmonth finished sixth with a personal best time of 1 minute 46.69 seconds in his first major championship.

He said: "I will build on this and move on and hopefully I will smash through 1.45 in the future.

"It has been a great learning experience for me. I have proved I can hold my own against these boys. I want to build on this going forward.

"It was my first major championship and I have finished sixth at my home games. Nobody was expecting me to finish sixth.

"Based on the personal bests of those involved in the final, I wasn't even expecting to get to the final. I have delivered so I am delighted.

"Throw a few opportunities in my face and I will grab them. I will keep working hard."
