THOUSANDS of people secured tickets for the Commonwealth Games as the first phase of the re-sale was dubbed a success.

Sports fans managed to get their hands on tickets for team sports as well as the opening and closing ceremonies, following last week's meltdown which saw tickets lines crash.

Organisers at Glasgow 2014 said the website and hotline had been busy -but there were no reports of technical problems.

Some customers who logged on at 10am yesterday when lines reopened, reported only a 10-minute wait to get tickets.

Sports fan, Claire Herriot, wrote on Twitter: "Pleasantly surprised how simple it was to get tickets this morning, glad gremlins out the system."

It came after buyers faced long delays last week when the ticket website struggled to cope with the demand.

The system was shut down a day after the extra tickets went on sale last Monday.

Yesterday, a Glasgow 2014 spokeswoman said: "The ticketing website and hotline have both continued to be busy.

"We're pleased, however, to report that throughout the day queues have been minimal as thousands of customers have successfully secured tickets."

Today, at 10am, tickets went on sale for the for the athletics and racquet sports events.

From tomorrow, at 10am, all remaining sports will be back on public sale as tickets for the weightlifting, para-sport powerlifting, lawn bowls, rhythmic gymnastics, shooting, boxing, judo and wrestling go on-sale.

Tickets for Glasgow 2014 start at £15 for adults and £7.50 for under 16s and over 60s. They are available online via tickets.glasgow 2014.com or via three new freephone ticketing hotline numbers: - Ticket Hotline: 0800 458 2014; Group sales: 0800 542 2014; Accessible sales: 0808 161 2014.
