SCOTLAND'S next generation of Commonwealth Games athletes took to the tracks of the transformed Hampden Park.
More than 1200 school children from across the country took part in the first day of the Scottish Schools Athletics Championships, which was the first competitive action at the world-class athletics arena in the South Side.
Hampden Park will host more than 1000 athletes in 48 events during the Games.
David Grevemberg, chief executive of Glasgow 2014, said: "The spectacular transformation of Hampden Park from football stadium to world-class athletics venue is an achievement of which Glasgow and Scotland can be justifiably proud.
"The Scottish Schools event will mark the first use of this state of the art temporary athletics track.
"We are thrilled young people will have the opportunity to compete in this beautiful facility before the elite athletes of the Commonwealth arriving in Glasgow next month."
The Scottish Schools Athletics Championships continue at Hampden Park today.
Janice Hendrie, president of the Scottish Schools Athletics Association, said: "We are delighted to be included in the preparations for the 2014 Games."
