Community Champions

THE Evening Times is searching for the people of Glasgow who you think deserve the title Community Champion.

Our hunt will take us to all the areas of the city and will give you the opportunity to offer a well deserved pat on the back to the unsung heroes who make other people's lives that bit easier.

During the next few months we will be highlighting just a few of the people who are already making that extra bit of difference.

Over the next 10 months, our awards scheme will visit every area of the city to recognise those community activists committed to improving lives.

How wonderful to come across a local communities section of your website. As a Glaswegian girl, born & bred, now living in Manchester I was very much looking forward to looking at the board for Cranhill. Where is it? Come on Evening Times, we are a proud part of the East End!

Great to be able to talk about the old town. I would be even better to be able to chat to other Glaswegians that have left the old place to find a better life. Can this be done on this site?

These Community Pages are a great resource to tap into, but what people must remember is they are heavily dependant on OUR CONTRIBUTIONS as readers of the E.T. and as team players, and Community Activists alike.

Lets ensure these pages are written by us, and not turned into an expansion of Evening Times journalists news stories, as that would be proof of failure to engage with the public these Community Times pages are meant to serve.

Many Glaswegions will remember during the 1990's the phenomenon that was 'Call That Singing'. Originally created by musician Joe McGinley during the 1990 European Year of Culture, it went for 13 years bringing together thousands of people for the joy of singing and of course make friends. Scottish Television broadcast one of these performances and I am sure there must be many people would like to see it again and remind themselves of days gone by... maybe even spot themselves. You can find it on my video page on www.vimeo.com. Just search for Call That Singing. Enjoy!
