EVERY primary school in Glasgow was left without vital computer access after the failure of a new £15million system.
It's caused chaos at more than 170 city primaries and linked pre-five units - and has yet to be fully resolved.
Schools have had no e-mail or internet access and teachers have been unable to access even basic data files, alough most did have limited access to essential services.
Dell installed the new information communications system on April 1, and it was due to be operating by the end of the holidays.
But teachers returning to work last week discovered the problem, and there are fears years of material supplied by a previous contractor could be lost.
Leaders of teaching union, the Educational Institute of Scotland, today hit out, and demanded compensation for the schools.
EIS Glasgow branch secretary Willie Hart said: "We had hoped the problems would be resolved by the end of last week. They have not been fully resolved.
"We've sent a very strong complaint to Glasgow City Council."
Dell won a contract to take care of the city's primaries earlier this year, and promised to provide 7400 computers, maintain networks and servers, and give full-time teachers laptop access.
IT specialists from the firm were trying to reconnect primary schools throughout the city.
A spokesman said today: "We've fixed the key problems. A few schools still don't have computer access, but 80-90% now do, while the rest will all have access by tomorrow."
A spokeswoman for Glasgow City Council said: "Of the 177 establishments in the city potentially affected by this situation, 94 now have proven access to core services from a number of PCs. Dell believes a further 43 also have access.
"Forty schools still have issues. All of these schools will be visited by Dell representatives today.
"Dell's latest postition is that all 177 establishments will have access to core services by close of business tomorrow."
