THE New Year is set to be jam-packed full of treats for Glasgow cinemagoers.

Horror fans don't have long to wait for the frightening Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, and also out this month is Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit starring Star Trek's Chris Pine as the CIA agent previously played on the big scrfeen by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck.

Robocop, out in February, is a hotly-anticipated remake of the hit 1987 film, taking place in 2028 Detroit, when multi-national conglomerate OmniCorp sees their chance to create a part-man, part-robot police officer (Joel Kinnaman).

Also in February, Colin Farrell, Russell Crowe and Will Smith star in Winter's Tale, telling the story of a burglar who falls for an heiress as she dies in his arms. When he learns that he has the gift of reincarnation, he sets out to save her.

In March, The Grand Budapest Hotel hosts an all-star cast of Bill Murray, Ralph Fiennes, Angela Lansbury, Jude Law and Saoirse Ronan, in a film set in at a famous European hotel between the wars.

In March and April the first and second parts of Lars von Triers's controversial Nymphomaniac, starring Charlotte Gainsbourg and Jamie Bell, will hit the big screen.

For those who were impressed by 2007's 300, the film based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, comes 300: Rise of an Empire. Released in March, the new chapter of the saga takes the battle to the sea.

In April, cinemagoers can also catch the real-life story For No Good Reason, starring Ralph Steadman and Johnny Depp, and telling the story of the artist Steadman's life.

Also out that month is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, while in May, Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thomson take the lead in The Love Punch, a romantic comedy about a divorced couple who, after their pension is stolen by an unscrupulous businessman, reunite to steal it back.

Graphic novel fans will have to wait until May when The Amazing Spider Man 2 is released along with X Men: Days of Future Past. Both look set to be adventure-packed

And they're not the only sequels planned for 2014. Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return is out in May, while June sees the release of How To Train Your Dragon 2, Tranformers 4: Age of Extinction, and horror film The Purge 2.

June also sees the much-anticipated big screen version of musical The Jersey Boys, directed by Clint Eastwood.

Eric Bana will take the lead in cop drama Deliver us from Evil, which is set for a July release. Bana plays a New York street police officer who has put his faith in religion but finds himself targeted by the devil in the form of possessed soldier.

The Legend of Hercules will see Twilight's Kellan Lutz star as the son of Zeus, showing off a pretty impressive six pack.

Cameron Diaz is part of an all-star cast in the comedy Sex Tape, about a married couple who go on a mad dash to find a stolen tape.

August highlights including The Hero of Color City, an imaginative animated tale charting the adventures of a diverse band of crayons that come alive in a little boy's room.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are also coming back to the big screen, and Sin City fans will be rewarded with a sequel, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.

Jason Bateman takes the lead in This is Where I Leave You, the family drama that's scheduled for a September release and also stars Tina Fey and Jane Fonda.

October will see the release of the hotly anticipated Gone Girl. A woman disappears on the day of her fifth anniversary and all roads point to her husband as the killer.

Ben Affleck takes the lead alongside Brit actress Rosamund Pike. Other highlights include Dracula Untold, charting the birth of the first vampire and horror fans can look forward to a fifth instalment in the Paranormal Activity franchise.

November sees the release of The Hunger Games: Mockinjay, Part 1. Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) has survived the Hunger Games twice, but even though she's made it out of the bloody arena alive, she's still not safe.

A sequel to Horrible Bosses, starring Jason Bateman, is also due for release that month.

Christian Bale stars in a retelling of the Biblical story of Moses in December, and Colin Firth will voice Paddington Bear in a new animation.

The final film in Peter Jackson's trilogy of Tolkien's The Hobbit, titled The Hobbit: There and Back Again has a pre-Christmas release.
