HUNDREDS of screaming teenagers queued in the rain to catch a glimpse of X Factor star Nicholas McDonald.

The singer from Motherwell, who was runner up on the ITV show, was in Glasgow yesterday to sign copies of his new album, In the Arms of an Angel.

And more than 500 adoring fans flocked to HMV on Buchanan Street to see the star. The queue snaked from Buchanan Street to Sauchiehall Street and even down West Nile Street.

With his name emblazoned on T-shirts and painted on their faces, the fans chanted his name and sang songs as they waited impatiently.

Inside the store some were over come with emotion as they came face to face with their idol.

One of the youngest was 11-year-old Mikensee Murphy from Airdrie.

She had travelled to Glasgow with her mum Lorraine and spoke to the Evening Times as they waited outside.

Mikensee said: "I am a massive Nicholas McDonald fan. I want him to sign the album and my phone.

"I loved watching him on X Factor and voted 30 times."

Friends Colette Paton, Laura Donnelly, Amy Martin, Zoe Martin and Danielle Adamson travelled from Castlemilk and Paisley to see Nicholas.

Zoe, 17, from Paisley, said: "I will probably start crying when I see him - I am so excited.

"He is amazing."

Fans were allowed inside HMV from 5pm but many had been outside the store for hours before.

Torrential rain failed to dampen their excitement as they screamed, cheered and sang songs.

Nicholas lost out on the X Factor crown to former prison warden Sam Bailey.

But following the show he signed with RCA Records to release his album.
