Verdict: five stars

The name's Backstreet...Backstreet Boys - and they've got a licence to perform.

The US boyband - although more manband these days - acted out a Bond fantasy as they opened up their In A World Like this tour at Glasgow's SSE Hydro tonight.

Popping up on stage, the music blared Backstreet's Back before the boys kicked off proceedings with The Call.

Nick Carter screamed, "Glasgow! It feels so good to be back in Scotland."

AJ McLean then walked on stage with his daughter, and boasted to his tot, "You know daddy's Scottish, this is your family."

The pair were joined by Howie D, Brian and Kevin - who has returned to the band after an hiatus - to complete the Backstreet Boys.

The journey into the last two decades of pop music however began with girl band All Saints.

Back then, sisters Nicole and Natalie Appleton, Melanie Blatt and Shaznay Lewis. were known for their perfectly highlighted hair, too cool for school dance moves and relationships with high profile celebrities. They also fronted some of the greatest pop tunes of that era.

With a set that could have easily slotted into the shop of the same name, the girls opened up with I Know Where It's At.

Shaznay then beamed, "Preparing for this gig has just been amazing. We've had so much fun."

A back catalogue of hits then followed including Booty Call and Black Coffee.

It was like the girls had never left the stage - the only criticism, they weren't on longer.

Ending with hits Never Ever and Pure Shores reminded the audience that the girls cut their careers too soon.

But the night was about the boys and what a show they put on.

The years have gone by but their showmanship, vocals and stage presence has only grown stronger.

Every woman in the audience was instantly a teenager again as the boys busted moves to early hit We've Got It Goin On while the promise of I'll Never Break Your Heart had us all reliving that moment of wanting to be Mrs Carter, or Mrs Richardson...you get the picture.

The group also showed off their mature side with the Jason Mraz sounding In A World Like This as AJ donned a kilt for the final part of the show - he is a McLean after all.

Finishing off with Everybody and Larger Than Life, the boys proved that they are as good as they were when they started out 20 years ago - if not better.

And if the reaction of the fans at the Hydro is anything to go by, Backstreet is back alright.
