THE curtain has come down on Glasgow's panto dream team.

Karen Dunbar and Des Clarke have been dropped for the 2014 production of Peter Pan at the King's Theatre.

After their success in Cinderella, which earned them the dream team tag, and last year's Aladdin, theatre bosses declined to comment on their decision not to bring them back.

Instead TV favourite Greg McHugh, who plays Gary: Tank Commander, will take the leading role.

He will be joined by King's theatre stalwart and Still Game Gavin Mitchell, who will take on the role of Captain Hook.

It wil be eighth panto at the theatre for the actor, who is recognised as one of the stage's best villains.

Greg, who starred in the successful TV comedy drama team Fresh Meat, will play the key comedy character Smee, Captain Hook's right-hand man, in the story of the little boy who refuses to grow up.

A King's Theatre spokesman said; "To celebrate 50 years since the first-ever pantomime was staged at the historic venue, the King's is thrilled to introduce a new star, in a new title."

McHugh spoke of his first panto role.

He said: "I'm extremely excited to be appearing in panto for the very first time and to be part of the King's golden anniversary celebrations makes it even more special.

"Having studied in Glasgow, I'm looking forward to the challenge of performing in the city's best Christmas production."

However, while McHugh will be celebrating adding a new string to his acting bow, fortunes are less favourable for existing King's panto stars.

Dunbar became an audience favourite in recent panto seasons.

DJ Clarke also proved to be a huge success, highlighted with his role as Wishy Washee in last year's Aladdin.

It was while appearing in Cinderella that the King's Theatre described the pair as "the dream team".'

The King's Theatre declined to comment on why the popular pairing will not be back this year.

And none of the names of the co-stars due to play other pivotal roles in the J M Barrie story, such as Peter Pan, Wendy, Nana and Michael, have yet been made available.
