TRAFFIC is to be banned in parts of the city centre to allow filming for a time-travelling drama.

Scenes from Outlander will be filmed around George Square this weekend.

Dozens of crew members will descend on the area, leading to traffic disruption.

George Street between North Fredrick Street and Montrose Street will be closed to traffic from 8am until 9pm on Sunday.

Traffic on John Street, between Cochrane Street and Martha Street, will also be banned.

From Saturday, there will be "no waiting and no loading" in George Street, John Street and Martha Street.

Diversions will be put in place.

Outlander is based on a series of novels by Diana Gabaldon which tell the story of Claire and James Fraser, a couple who time travel between 18th and 20th century Scotland.

It is the latest blockbuster to be filmed in Glasgow, following World War Z, Cloud Atlas and Fast and Furious 6.

Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council, said: "To have another vote of confidence in Glasgow's on-screen prowess in the form of Outlander is testament to Glasgow's unique character."
