A TIME travel-themed drama filmed in Glasgow could be the nation's answer to Game of Thrones.
VisitScotland hopes the adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander books could bring a tourism boost after the show premiered last weekend in California.
The series, starring Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, was shot in Scotland, at locations including Glasgow's Pollok Park and the George Square area, as well as in the Highlands.The 16-episode drama is based on the experiences of a 1940s British combat nurse Claire Randall, who is catapulted to the 1740s Highlands.
The tourism body said it will run campaigns over the coming months to encourage would-be visitors to enjoy an Outlander-style adventure in Scotland.
They also hope the new show will mirror the success of cult HBO series Game Of Thrones, which has furthered Northern Ireland's reputation as a go-to place for the film industry.
VisitScotland chairman Mike Cantlay said: "Scotland is the star of Outlander and its focus on stunning scenery, romance, adventure and ancestry make it a fantastic advert for Scotland.
"We are hoping for big things from Outlander."
