Ant and Dec aren't short of any celebrity friends which is perhaps why their Saturday Night Takeaway Show Live is bursting with cameos from TV favourites.

Former TOWIE star Joey Essex and Pussycat Dolls alumni Ashley Roberts both feature in the variety show based on the popular ITV programme which was at the Glasgow SSE Hydro for the first of four dates on Tuesday night.

Loveable Joey Essex never claims to be the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to having general knowledge but his appearance as the show's guest announcer is bound to delight and entertain fans.

"I got offered the opportunity to do the guest appearance and I was over the moon," said Joey.

The TV star, who is a survivor of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, which Ant and Dec also present, couldn't quite believe his luck when he was offered a role on the tour.

He said: "I used to watch Ant and Dec all the time growing up. Now, it is like, how am I working with Ant and Dec?

"I am part of it now. It's incredible. It's mind blowing. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and think, am I joey Essex? Do I work with Ant and Dec. Am I on TV?

If a string of endorsement deals including a Fusey aftershave don't help remind Joey of his fame, then his fans are bound to.

He said: "I love the Scottish fans. I love coming to Glasgow. You get here and you've got all these crazy screaming fans."

His love of Scottish food on the other hand is somewhat under question - especially when it comes to haggis.

" I have had haggis before. I didn't know what I was eating. Is it a lump of sugar?

"It's like the Scottish version of bubble and squeak."

Some questions Joey are best left unanswered.

Ashley on the other hand has avoided local delicacies in favour of hitting the style mile.

She said: "I went down to the Buchanan Galleries and went shopping. I think the most adventurous I got with trying food was in the jungle that was because I was forced to otherwise I'm strict with my diet and what I like."

The beauty slots in perfectly as the compere of Ant Vs Dec on the show, but for her the role doesn't quite feel like work.

She said: "It's a blast, it doesn't feel like work. The show goes on a rollercoaster ride of fun entertainment and laughs. The boys are so good at what they do. They have amazing guest announcers come. I get to perform in it, that makes me super excited. We've got all the best bits from the actual television show like Win the Ads. It's a good time."

It also helps that Ashley has been made to feel welcome by the Scottish audiences, "I have got a really warm response from the Scots and I love it. They are good people, you guys have got good energy about you and its nice," she said.

The singer though refuses to voice her opinion when it comes to picking out a favourite from the double act.

She joked when asked if she preferred Ant or Dec, "Cheeky! Cheeky" I love them both to pieces, I really do."

Catch Joey and Ashley on the Glasgow dates of the Saturday Night Takeaway Live tour which returns to the Hydro on August 25 to 27.
