Nick Grimshaw has revealed his father will only watch him on the X Factor if it does not clash with Match Of The Day.

The new host of the TV talent show said: "He starts panicking what time Match Of The Day is on at about three in the afternoon."

He also revealed that singer Jessie Ware wants to join him for the judges' houses stage of the show as his guest.

"I saw Jessie (who may well be my favourite person) at Glastonbury. She was like 'Obviously, I've got to be at judges' houses, where are we going?'," he said.

"She wants the job already. I'd love her to do it, she's super talented, she's super funny and she cannot stop talking - she'd be ideal. It's just whether or not she can fit it in, she's been insanely successful and playing every festival."

Responding to reported comments from Spice Girl Mel C that the X Factor has "had its day", Grimshaw insisted this year is going to be different.

"I think it's been shaken up and I can't wait to get started. It's a whole new panel, it's going to be completely different this year."

The BBC Radio 1 host has signed up alongside newcomer Rita Ora, and X Factor veterans Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.

When asked if he and good friend Ora would gang up against the other hosts, he said: "Rita is one of those people that treats everyone the same, so I can't imagine her ever ganging up on anyone. And if you are going to gang up on someone, they are probably the wrong people to pick because he employs me and she's a Geordie."

Grimshaw was speaking ahead of the return of another of his TV ventures, MTV's Relentless Ultra Presents Soundchain.

The six-part show sees Grimshaw interview musicians and also features live performances.

Guests on the show this year include Florence and The Machine, 50 Cent and Rudimental.

Grimshaw shared anecdotes from the various interviews, including 50 Cent arriving late for their New York interview because he had stopped to by a 300,000 US dollars (£192,200) Rolls Royce convertible.

"He's so lovely and really funny, really great, all you could wish for. We got on like a house on fire and then he took us out for a drive in his car," Grimshaw said.

Relentless Ultra Presents Soundchain premieres on MTV Music tonight at 11pm.
