T in the Park kicks off at Strathallan Castle on Friday, reports Faron Stalker.

To put you in the mood for the three day music festival, which has been held annually since 1994, here are 20 amazing facts to impress your mates with.

1. T in the Park is named after the brewing company Tennents, the festival's main sponsor.

Glasgow Times:

2. T in the Park was a two day event until 2007.

Glasgow Times:

3. T in the Park festival director Geoff Ellis first came to Scotland in 1992 to manage the popular Glasgow venue King Tut's Wah Wah Hut.

4. The first T in the Park was held in Strathclyde Park, Lanarkshire and 17,000 people attended and only 2,000 chose to camp.

5. In 2007, the first year that the festival was a three day event, many festival-goers missed acts because of major traffic jams on Friday along the A91 and A977 that spanned 10 miles due to the closure of the festival's main car park because of heavy rain. Because of this, festival organisers allowed some campers to arrive at the festival on Thursday the next year to limit traffic on the roadways.

Glasgow Times:

6. The festival was moved to Strathallan Castle this year because of concern for the Forties pipeline system that runs beneath the Balado airfield and carries 30% of the U.K.'s oil, or 700,000 barrels per day.

7. T in the Park is now the second largest greenfield festival in the UK and the fifth largest in the world. (Glastonbury is the largest greenfield festival in the UK and the world).

8. 20% of the crowd at T in the Park is from outside of Scotland and 2% are from overseas.

9. Today, T in the Park is four times its original size with 255,000 attendees and 70,000 campers.

10. Oxegen, a festival in County Kildare, Ireland, takes place on the same weekend as T in the Park and shares many of the headliners, who will play one day at Oxegen and the next day at T in the Park, or vice versa.

Glasgow Times:

11. Tennents Lager is brewed just 36 hours before the festival at the Wellpark Brewery.

12. In the past, music has started at 5pm on Friday, but in 2014, in an attempt to boost ticket sales, festival promoters announced that the first acts would appear at lunchtime on Friday, adding six hours of music to the festival.

13. Since the beginning of T in the Park in 1994, nearly 3 million pints of Tennents Lager have been consumed.

14. The very first lineup at T in the Park featured bands such as Oasis, Rage Against the Machine, Primal Scream, Bjork, Cypress Hill and Blur.

15. At the 1998 T in the Park, large television screens were set up so football fans could watch the World Cup Final.

16. Blink-182 was originally supposed to headline the 2011 T in the Park, but they were replaced by Beyonce when they cancelled because they were unable to complete their album on time for the European tour.

18. In the spring, ospreys were discovered in Strathallan Castle, this year's location for the festival. Organizers underwent 28-days of strict negotiations and brought in bird experts to make sure that the festival would not disturb the protected birds of prey, all at the cost of £500,000.

19. With 190 acts and weekend camping tickets priced at £194, T in the Park was voted the UK's best value music festival. A study by money-saving website PromotionalCodes.org.uk found that festival-goers pay only £1.94 per act at T in the Park.

20. While most performers travel to T in the Park in tour coaches, in 1996, Keanu Reeves, at the time considered one of the world's sexiest men after his 1995 film Speed, rode the bus from Glasgow Buchanan Street bus station with festival-goers without attracting any attention. After his band Dogstar performed at T in the Park, Keanu Reeves returned to Glasgow and was spotted enjoying a curry at Cafe India.
