THERE’S been some blurred lines for songstress Kate Voegele over the past few years.

As well as her singing career she also starred on American drama One Tree Hill, where her character, Mia Catalano, played Kate’s own songs.

“Sometimes it was tough for even me to figure out where Mia ended and I began,” laughs the actress and singer, who plays the Garage on Tuesday night.

“She was such a fun character to play. There were a lot of similarities in our personalities, especially when I think about my younger self.

"Mia was a bit younger than I was in real life, and she was a little more reckless, a little more immature, and a lot more jealous than I am.

"But I've been that person before and experienced those things, so it was cool to tap into that.”

Kate’s Glasgow visit on Tuesday is part of a double delight for One Tree Hill fans, as she’s co-headlining with Tyler Hilton, who played Chris Keller on the show.

But her own singing career has been on the go for several years, and she’s notched three albums in that time.

Last year the 28-year-old released a new EP, Wild Card, that featured more of a country feel to it than her previous pop work, and she’s currently plotting a fourth album that’ll continue in that style.

“I've always been really drawn to warm, rustic instruments like the mandolin, violin, and pump organ," explains Kate.

“I really wanted to incorporate some of those sounds into this record, and there were definitely some subtle country influences.

"I think my music falls more under a ‘Laurel Canyon Country’ genre than a traditional country one.

“My lyrics aren't southern, but I love a lot of those warm, classic 70's California sounds and wanted them to play a big role.”

Although UK audiences might think of Kate as an actress first and singer second, music was always her first love, and it came as a surprise to her when she landed the One Tree Hill role that kick-started her dual career.

“I always loved acting classes in high school and college, because it was a creative outlet and I liked being in front of people enough to get up and do it,” she recalls.

“However, I honestly never envisioned myself moving to LA and 'going for it' as an actor.

"I was just too focused on music and too excited about going on tour to ever see acting as something I'd have time for.

“But sure enough, on a day off on tour in LA, I went to the One Tree Hill audition and landed the part unexpectedly. So in a way, it was kind of an accident.”

The songstress tends to use her own experiences to fuel her lyrics, although she’s trying to write more from other perspectives as well.

“For me, it's always easier and more natural to write about my own experience as a kind of therapy,” she says.

“But it's also cool to see how growing as a songwriter makes you want to write from other perspectives as well.”

While her co-headliner Tyler Hilton has regularly visited Glasgow in recent years, this will be Kate’s first visit here. She’s keen to learn about her family background, and do some shopping too …

“I've never been to Scotland before and I've heard it's absolutely beautiful,” she says.

“Half of my Grandpa's family is from Scotland, so I'm excited to explore a part of our family history and also meet my awesome Scottish fans.

"I absolutely love to travel- and I honestly want to go everywhere.

"I'm really excited for this tour because Scotland has always been big on my list.

“I love food and trying all of the local dishes- and shopping.

"It's so much fun to find unique pieces that you literally can't get anywhere else.”
