Grace Jones is one of the most unforgettable women in pop but The View’s lead singer, Kyle Falconer can’t even remember if he met her or not.

The Dundee rockers’ frontman, Kyle Falconer has admitted that he will “probably try to keep his hood up to avoid” Grace Jones when he supports her at Bellahouston Park at the end of August.

The four-piece band who have all known each other since they were toddlers are set to support Paolo Nutini and the legendary singer, model and actress Grace Jones as part of Glasgow Summer Sessions on August 29.

Kyle said that he “loves" close friend Paolo Nutini  and sees him "every so often” – but couldn’t really remember Grace Jones so thought meeting her might be a bit awkward.

He said: “I’m sure I met her at Mick Jagger’s daughter’s Birthday party but I can’t remember where it was, I went there with Mark Ronson. I can’t remember what she was like so I’m not really looking forward to seeing her, I will probably just try to keep my hood up and avoid her.”

When talking about the Paisley crooner though the 28 year-old even went as far as to say that he is the best thing to come out of the UK.

“What first inspired me was The Streets, that’s what got me because initially I just thought I liked it a lot and then gradually, I thought I just can’t believe how good looking he was for a start," Kyle said.

He added: “I’m a sucker for pop music but this is beyond pop. Paolo is definitely the best thing that’s came out of Britain. Since Oasis and the Libertines as well but Paolo Nutini is definitely the next best thing that came out since The Libertines.”

The View are also set to release their fifth studio album, Ropewalk on September 4, which was produced by Albert Hammond Jr and Gus Oberg from The Strokes.

“I wrote all the songs on this album, so can relate to all of them but for me the song Sixteen Words, which actually wasn’t going to be on that album is one I can relate to the most," Kyle admitted.

He added: “It’s about my sister, who’s an English teacher and she’s always telling me stories about the kids in the school that she teaches and how the quieter ones were the always the ones with the most problems and she would take them out after class and say what’s the problem and stuff.”

Kyle has also played at T in The Park alongside his band, eight times now, his last being this year on July 12 and he feels that playing there is a bit like “Groundhog day”.

“You kind of turn into a robot when you do it all of the time. It’s like groundhog day, I just do the exact same thing," he said.

He added: “Of course I enjoyed it though it was brilliant.”

Kyle explained the reason behind his recent lack of enthusiasm for performing at T in the Park, saying: "When I first started playing I used to feel great and quite proud of myself but when you do T in The Park you’ve only got a certain amount of time to play. I just think I’ve done it, I want to be on stilts, I want to do something different.

“It’s still great, but the gig’s kind of get in the way of getting drunk sometimes.”

Kyle also admitted to trying to wow the ladies by “doing a backflip off a bench” later after his performance.

“I tried to do a backflip without landing on my head but I landed at the right time. I was trying to show off to all the birds, do you know what I mean?" he laughed.

Although Kyle is still smitten with girlfriend, Carly Connor who he reckons looks a bit like a younger version of Stevie Nicks.

He said: “She definitely looks like Stevie Nicks, that’s one of the reasons why I fell for her.

“Obviously she’s gorgeous but the first time I saw her singing, I thought I’ve got something to live up to here.

He added: “I was envious then, and now all we do is sit in my house and constantly write”.

The love-struck singer hopes to release a record with 20 year-old singer Carly but hasn’t had the chance to because of his responsibilities with the band.

“I was hoping to do a record with Carly but every chance that I’ve had there’s always been something else to do with the band. But one day we’ll definitely bring a record out,” Kyle said.

Although Kyle says he won’t leave the group to go and tour with Carly without their permission, he has said that if they want to take a break from the band that he is happy to spend the time releasing songs with his girlfriend.

He said: “I wouldn’t leave the group but if the boys wanted to take a year out to go to Cambodia or something then we could do a record together but it’s really hard with the boys because we’re so close.

He said: “Even when we spend some time apart I get withdrawal symptoms. They’re good boys – I love them.”
