BETWEEN Broadcast and Nice’N’Sleazy, Sauchiehall Street has its own little indie outpost among the takeaways and the student bars.

Broadcast is the newer of the two, but with a gig lineup of hyped indie bands and an eclectic club calendar, it’s gaining ground on its more illustrious neighbour.

Downstairs, in the intimate gig venue, you can generally catch some of the city's coolest new bands supporting Pitchfork-endorsed international acts.

The only thing is, it’s impossible to move for music bloggers tapping on their phones and kneeling in front of the stage for a better shot.

The internet has made it easy for any would-be commentator to make their voice heard, but the grim reality is that so many of these people should really be keeping their mouths shut (No jokes, please – I am a highly-trained media professional, with a 2:2 in journalism from Glasgow Caledonian).

It would appear that very few bloggers are in the game for the love of writing.

Having a WordPress site is seen as a ticket to free meals, gigs and clothes.

The bloggers with the most fans are gifted access to the glittering circuit of corporate PR events, with all the free Prosecco, goodie bags and stilted chat that entails.

After rubbing shoulders with the old media writers, they’ll head home, upload 50 photos and bash out a couple of witless, poorly-punctuated paragraphs, and it’s job done.

The pursuit of clicks and page views has led to the ridiculous scenario where each blogger is constantly on the hunt for something new to crown “the best.”

The best burger in Glasgow. The best salad in Glasgow. The best street food in Glasgow. The best fries in Glasgow. The best salt in Glasgow. It’s ridiculous.

Why have we stopped judging things on their merits, and who started this arbitrary struggle to be “the best”?

It has to end, if only because I might not be able to read another blog article declaring a piece of falafel “the best falafel I’ve ever had in Glasgow,” without poking my own eyes out.
