Gardeners' World presenter Monty Don said he is planning to continue working until he reaches his 80th birthday.
The broadcaster and writer said he has no plans to retire, despite turning 60 over the summer.
He told the Daily Mail's Weekend magazine: "My father had retired by 64 and was dead by 67. No thanks.
"I think my generation is extraordinarily lucky - 60 isn't old any more, is it? There's plenty more to come."
The horticultural guru and father-of-three has had to take a break from work during various bouts of ill health, including after suffering a stroke in 2008. He has also suffered with depression.
But he said he is determined to delay retirement - and is due to front a new series of The Secret History of the British Garden on BBC2.
He added: "I'm not even considering (retiring). I'm going to keep working. I reckon I've got another 20 years of work in me, if anyone still wants me."
