It is uttered by the hero of the Outlander series of historical fantasy books set in Scotland and has struck a chord with readers.
Jamie Fraser's powerful words: "I am your master and you're mine. Seems I canna possess your sould without losing my own" in the first of Diana Gabaldon's novels have been voted as the quote most people would share with others.
It has topped a poll run by Book Week Scotland, with almost a third of respondents naming it as their favourite.
Marc Lambert, director of the Scottish Book Trust, said: "It is no surprise to see Diana Gabaldon at the top of this list – her fan-base is huge, loyal and fantastically supportive of the Outlander series of books, which are meticulously researched and have done wonders for Scottish tourism over the past few years."
Writing by Lewis Grassic Gibbon from his seminal novel Sunset Song came second in the poll, which drew 1000 votes from 20 countries.
Other shareable quotes include writing by Roald Dahl, JM Barrie, Jackie Kay and Iain Banks, among others.
