Following the news that Stephen Moffat has quit his role as lead writer and executive producer for Doctor Who, we can’t help but wonder what will become of the show.
It is expected that Peter Capaldi will be leaving Doctor Who at the end of 2017 so new showrunner Chris Chibnall can 'choose his own Time Lord', according to reports.
But who will he choose?
Benedict Cumberbatch
Ok, so this one a long shot.
Cumberbatch’s adoring fans would probably go into complete overdrive if he became the Doctor. Is he too busy being Sherlock to take on the role? Could he do both? We’re not so sure.
Aidan Turner
Having won an award for greatest TV moment at the National Television Awards 2016 (for a topless scene no less), Aidan Turner is on the up. We think he’d jump at the chance of starring in a new Doctor Who series.
Lenora Crichlow
A female doctor would be a really interesting direction for the show, and it’s about time they gave it a go. Casting a woman in the role would completely break the mould from previous series’ and could potentially draw in a huge audience. Lenora Crichlow played a ghost in the hit show ‘Being Human’, so she’s used to spooky goings on. Do you think she could handle it?
Richard Madden
The ex-Game of Thrones heartthrob already has links to the show as long term girlfriend Jenna Coleman starred in the show alongside Capaldi as the Doctor’s assistant. She might put a good word in for him, and we certainly wouldn’t mind seeing him on our screens more often!
James McAvoy
He first shot to fame starring in TV show Shameless as Steve McBride, but and has since moved on to bigger things, starring in Hollywood blockbusters like X-Men: Days of Future Past. Would James McAvoy come back to his TV routes for the role of a lifetime?
Idris Elba
He’s constantly fighting off speculation that he could take over as the new James Bond after Daniel Craig, but we think he’d make an excellent Doctor instead!
Who do you think should be the next Doctor? Let us know on Twitter or Facebook.
