Having just given birth to her son Kit, Coleen Rooney has decided to eat her own placenta.

Wayne Rooney’s wife will be feasting on afterbirth, which has been converted into capsules and sent back to her in a jar with a pretty blue gingham bow.

The pills are from a “placenta encapsulation specialist”, which says the pills help new mothers “recover from birth with the most natural remedy around.”

While there was speculation that she was following Kim Kardashian’s example, Coleen was adamant that she hadn’t even heard about the celebrity connection.

She tweeted: “Yeh it was a friend who recommended it to me, never heard of it before. Thank you. And less of the rumours ha!!”

Coleen gave birth to her third son on Sunday, a brother to Kai and Klay.

Her husband tweeted he was “over the moon”, while Coleen shared with fans: “Both home & doing really well.”

Coleen has joined a roster of famous mums who snack on placenta pills – including Kim Kardashian, who announced her intention to eat the freeze-dried afterbirth when North West was born in 2013.

January Jones, star of Mad Men, praised the effects of eating her placenta in 2011 after the birth of her son Xander. She told Glamour: “It’s not gross or witchcrafty. It’s a very civilized thing that can help women with depression or fatigue.

“I was never depressed or sad or down after the baby was born, so I’d highly suggest it to any pregnant woman.”

Clueless star Alicia Silverstone made the same decision, while reality star Kourtney Kardashian followed her sister’s lead when her third child was born in 2014.
