YouTube Red – the paid subscription service where you can stream movies – has launched a series of programmes, direct onto YouTube. They’re all original films.
And one of those is a documentary (which is actually a pretty eye-opening watch) behind Lilly Saini Singh – better known by her YouTube username Superwoman. You have to pay £5.99 to see the whole 1 hour and 20 minutes of it.
IT’S HERE! A Trip To Unicorn Island is now available on #YTRedOriginals: https://t.co/pGwx3P11bL Enjoy! 🙏🏽🦄❤️ pic.twitter.com/f1QWS3yYva

For those of you who aren’t in the know when it comes to that sort of thing, she’s an Indo-Canadian YouTube personality, vlogger, and comedian. The documentary follows the Canada native on a 26-city tour around the world, offering fans a never-before-seen look at Lilly “Superwoman” Singh.
So here’s the big things we learned about Lilly – and what it’s like to be a massively popular YouTube star (honestly, she has millions of subscribers and it’s all a bit crazy).
1. “A Trip to Unicorn Island” references Singh’s happy place.
@IISuperwomanII hold my hand lets go to Unicorn island yaaay!!😭😭😍😍#at2ui

@IISuperwomanII BRB I'm on the unicorn island, talk when I come back YAS

Yes, at first you’re like “UM, what exactly is Unicorn Island?!” But then Lilly explains how she’s battled depression and says she goes to her unicorn island – her happy place in her mind – to help her. And that’s a nice idea and probably inspiring for young people…but it does kinda hurt your brain how many times the phrase “unicorn island” is said.
She describes the trip to “unicorn island” as Katy Perry meets Miley Cyrus meets Willy Wonka meets Alice in Wonderland. And her ambitious tour – with dance, music, comedy – defo has that colourful vibe.
2. Lilly has an insane fan base. Seriously.
guys i am crying so hard i love lily singh with all of my heart

Woah, all a bit dramatic isn’t it? At one point, you even see a fan manage to get on stage during the show and get a selfie with Lilly.
3. Amazingly, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a fan.
The Rock, because why not? (Screenshot/YouTube)
Yes, that really is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson making a cameo in the film. He says “about an hour later of watching her videos I was hooked”.
This bit was, well, random.
He’s a big fan (Screenshot/YouTube)
4. YouTube stars have a pretty crazy work ethic.
This is after Lilly has to have a UV drip because she’s been working so hard (Screenshot/YouTube)
It seems like she literally never stops. And her fans find it inspiring how much effort she puts into organising the world tour, while still posting her videos on YouTube.
@IISuperwomanII Congrats on the movie! Your work ethic is insane. You inspire me to work harder. Next stop. Unicorn Island. 🦄 #teamsuper 🦄

We meet her parents in the documentary – in an interview with her dad, we find out he really wanted her to do her masters, so he said she had a year to try and do her YouTube thing – which she says is why she put so much effort in. And seeing how big the tour is, it’s paid off.
And there are some really quite touching moments with her and her parents. It’s quite cool that so much of her life is in the film.

5. She’s pretty good at singing.

Oh, and rapping. She has a lot of fun with it, and some of her other YouTube friends join her on stage. The whole documentary has quite a catchy soundtrack too, which is fun.
6. And there’s lots of dancing too…
Busting some big moves (Screenshot/YouTube)
She does her shows with eight back-up dancers, on proper stages.
7. The documentary is basically just about her tour – she went all around the world.

And it’s quite interesting to see just how huge the tour is. But the film is also meant to inspire fans – which was, well, a tad cheesy at times. There’s quite a lot of quotes like this.
Some words of wisdom for her fans (Screenshot/YouTube)
