Coronation Street actress Tina O’Brien has revealed that Sarah-Louise Platt’s recent storyline involving the death of Callum Logan has been the “hardest thing” she has ever filmed.

In a special live episode of Corrie in September 2015, viewers saw Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) kill a violent Callum (Sean Ward) – and Sarah-Louise and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) then helped to bury the body under Gail Rodwell’s (Helen Worth) brand new extension.

Ever since, the Platts have been on high alert – with new mum Sarah feeling the biggest strain.

“There are days that the scenes are quite heavy-going and it’s not a nice place to put your head in,” explains 32-year-old Tina. “I’d be lying if I said that I found it easy. I haven’t. It’s been easily the hardest thing that I’ve ever filmed.

“But it isn’t real. At the end of the day, I can go have a shower, go for a nice little run, go home and spend time with my family and as long as you don’t take it home with you then it’s fine. It’s just making sure you switch off at the end of it.”

Tina, who announced her engagement to partner Adam Crofts earlier this month, also stated how she struggled to stop herself having negative thoughts while acting the storyline.

“I think it’s really highlighted to me how easy it is to get your head in a bad place,” she said. “Because I’m only pretending but it’s really weird how quickly you can have repetitive bad thoughts if you allow yourself to. So you need something to switch off.”

Describing Sarah as more “vulnerable and alone” than her brother David and his wife Kylie, Tina says that she is “definitely” the weak link when the body is found and the police call in the Platts for questioning.

“She’s trying really really hard to keep it together,” adds Tina. “But there’s things that get said to her accidentally that make her think that maybe things aren’t what they seem. She starts becoming quite delusional and quite separated from reality, really.

“They’re family and they’ll stick by each other,” she continued. “But if it came between Kylie and Sarah – David would be stabbing her in the back! Sarah wouldn’t stand a chance. But she is the weak link.”

Tina describes the scenes in which Sarah’s is interrogated as “really intense” – and even admits that she found the ordeal nerve-racking for real!

“It’s weird because you sort of think ‘they think I’m lying! Am I going to say the wrong thing?’ And it’s like ‘it’s not real!’”

Although Corrie bosses have remained tight-lipped about Paula Lane’s exit storyline as Kylie, it will almost certainly revolve around the revelation of Callum’s body.

Asked how she feels about co-star Paula, who has been on the ITV soap for six years, departing the show imminently, Tina said that she has “loved” working with her.

“She’s brilliant,” she said. “I’m really happy for her because it’s what she wanted – it’s really good. But when you really love working with someone, I will be sad. But it’s great and it’s a great storyline.”

However, Tina denied that Paula leaving the soap to have her second child has also given her itchy feet to leave the show.

“I was gone from Coronation Street for seven years and I had a wonderful time, but I’ve been back just over a year and I honestly feel like it’s just been a dream year really with storylines and everything. I’m very happy.”

It’s set to be an explosive few days in Weatherfield this week as Carla Connor’s (Alison King) marriage to Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) looks all set to go ahead – as long as Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) doesn’t spill the beans about Carla’s one night stand with Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill).

Coronation Street is airing at 9pm from Sunday May 22 to Thursday May 26.
