It was an emotional day for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on ITV’s This Morning on Friday as they bade farewell to the show’s adorable resident, Labrador puppy Clover.

The TV twosome had to say goodbye to their “puppy with a purpose” as she enjoyed her last stint on the programme before going off to explore a new canine career as a guide dog.

Having spent a year as part of the show’s team, the puppy has grown up and developed into a well-behaved pooch and will now go on to Guide Dog School.

However, the otherwise beautiful moment was somewhat ruined in the cutest of ways as Clover misbehaved during the live broadcast, leaving Holly and Phillip in fits of giggles.

While posing for speed-painter Dave Sharp to take a picture, so he could quickly create a memorable family portrait, Clover acted out and refused to sit still, chewing on her bone while Holly and Phil struggled to control her – and their laughter.

The presenters could be heard barking orders “Sit!”, “Stay!” before Holly attempted to get the unruly little pup to “say cheese”.

However, it wasn’t a complete loss as Dave managed to whip up a paint-splattered canvas that certainly bore a resemblance to the presenters and their trusty hound in just six minutes.

A set of clips showing Clover’s best moments throughout her year on the show – including her meetings with the Duchess of Cornwall and a Coronation Street set visit – was shown before an emotional Holly admitted she was having “very mixed emotions” over saying goodbye to her hairy TV co-star.

“It’s very mixed emotions today, she got here when she was a tiny little thing and we have to say goodbye – and hard to believe it’s nearly been a year since she came into our lives.”

Phillip added that “she’s been such a good girl”, before Holly praised the pet for being “a real pleasure to work with”.

“What would be great is if we can find out where she goes and meet the person whose life she’ll change,” Phillip added.

Holly also revealed that there was one particular thing she’d long for after Clover’s departure, saying: “I’m going to miss her eyebrows the most, she’s so expressive.”
