Rylan Clark-Neal has claimed Americans make great Celebrity Big Brother housemates because they “aren’t used to how Britain works”.

The Big Brother’s Bit On The Side host, 27, said US celebrities are unaware of how reality TV is produced in the UK in comparison to the “heavily scripted” shows they are accustomed to.

He told the Press Association: “Some of the Americans haven’t watched Big Brother before. They genuinely turn up thinking they’re going on a reality show, but reality in America isn’t quite real.

“Reality in America is heavily scripted, very edited, and they have a say in what goes on TV and what doesn’t.

“They come over here, start shaving their downstairs bits and expect us not to show it. No darling, it’s not like that.”

The former Celebrity Big Brother champion compared the US version of the show to the UK edition, describing it as “a completely different ballgame”.

Ahead of the new series of the Channel 5 programme, which airs on Thursday, Rylan hinted there will be American contestants entering the house.

He said: “We always have a few Americans. They’re a good mix with the other people we have in.”

He revealed his favourite former US housemates were singer Michelle Visage, ex-boyfriend of designer Marc Jacobs Austin Armacost, and blogger Perez Hilton.

Contestants taking part in the new series will not be confirmed until they enter the house, but the line-up was reportedly leaked this week.
