BEARSDEN songstress Lucia Fontaine can’t wait to release her debut EP on vinyl after admitting she has finally found a collection of songs which truly represent her.

The 20-year-old singer is planning to release Best Boy via Dead Beet Records this Autumn but the process of bringing together the tracks for the EP hasn’t been an easy one.

She explained: “It’s taken me a while to release something that is fully me, and so far I’ve had great feedback, so if I can continue making music I love and it translates to more people, then I will be happy.”

She added: “I've been working on trying to release an EP for two years but I was just waiting until I had the right tracks.

“Ones which I felt great about and had real confidence in them doing well."

She continued: “All the tracks that are on the EP were written this year and as soon as they were finished I went straight into recording.

“The EP was produced By Conor Goldie of Dead Beet Records, and ROXY AGOGO. We all have similar tastes in music and understand each other’s ideas so working with them was a piece of cake and they had it sounding top notch within no time at all.

“I had an EP Launch in the Poetry Club during summer where I had released the EP onto a cassette tape, however I will be releasing the 7” vinyl around November time which I’m super excited about, I've always wanted to have my own vinyl.”

Ending the year with an EP release will be the cherry on top for Lucia whose 2016 has been pretty good so far.

She said: “2016 has been a really exciting year so far.

“I’ve been busy, working hard on the EP and even continuing to write after that.

“ Filming videos and playing more gigs around Glasgow.

“What makes it even better is that it’s all being done with close friends and we have a blast doing it.

“We vibe off each other well, give each other encouragement so we can all be our best together.”

One of those close friends was sadly lost in an accident last month which shocked the city’s music community.

Gary Watson, who was lead singer with East Kilbride band The Lapelles, died after he fell into the River Clyde on what would have been his 22nd birthday.

Lucia said: “He was my friend and The Lapelles are a f**king amazing band.”

It’s the sounds of The Lapelles and other Scottish acts that has inspired Lucia in forming her own music.

She said: “I admire a lot of my friends who are also in the music scene such as WHITE, Baby Strange, The Lapelles and The Ninth Wave.

“I love each and every one of these bands music, and they are all great people.

“I feel they give me that extra push to do great things.

“When I see them perform, or watch their music videos, or even just chat to them I get inspired.

“The Glasgow music scene is getting bigger and bigger, and I like that there is no competition and we’re all doing it together.”

And it’s that inspiration fans will get to hear on Best Boy.

“Every song I feel has its own sound but as the same time they all fit well together because it’s just me,” explained Lucia.

She added: “Lose My Mind is quite heavy and 90s grunge , and then Saturday Is Dead is straight up rock n roll.

“I would also say that my music is very influenced by 70s punk, simple and sweet.”

The words are just as important as the sound with every track on the album except one penned by Lucia as she explained, “I wrote the EP Myself, except one of the tracks which is yet to be released, which I wrote with ROXY AGOGO/ Hamish from WHITE.

“They were all written around the same time, maybe all within two or three months at the beginning of the year.

“There all a series of my feelings and thoughts about a messy relationship.

“They all came to me quite easily, and as they were finished I went straight into recording as I knew they could be something great, especially because I know they’re real and other people can relate to them.”

For fans hoping to hear those tracks live, you might have to wait a little bit longer – or until Lucia is ready to hit the road.

She said: “I'm not sure I’ll do a tour just yet but I will be doing lots more gigs through the end of the year and into next year, in and out of Glasgow.

“I would love to do a tour but I reckon it’s too early for that yet. “

She added: “I, however, have a few Scottish dates coming up.

“Lots of cool supports for Black Honey and The Big moon.

“All the dates and gigs I have coming up are on my social media @luciafontaineuk.”
