DJ Vick Hope has confirmed she has signed up for Strictly Come Dancing and admitted she has had some dance experience – “pretending to be a rock”.
The broadcaster’s name accidentally slipped out, on air on Capital FM, minutes before the station, where she works, was due to make the big announcement.
When Hope was officially revealed, she admitted she is not as famous as some of the other Strictly signings.
“It’s really surreal. This is a huge show. My mum knows this show. I can’t pretend I’m a celebrity like some of the others, the level of their following…” she said.
“What an opportunity. I’m a fan of the show and I feel very honoured to be part of it.”
She went on: “I used to do contemporary dance, so I’d pretend to be a tree or a rock. I don’t know who useful that is going to be.
“Latin and ballroom, I’ve got absolutely no clue. It’s completely out of my comfort zone.”
Hope shrugged off questions about the so-called Strictly curse, saying: “I’ve got much bigger things to think about right now and that’s learning how to dance.”
She added: “I love dancing. It makes me happy. It makes people happy. I’m so excited. I like shaking my hips.”
She is a fan of rival contestant Faye Tozer from Steps, saying: “I might have to be taken away from her.”
YouTube star Joe Sugg, TV presenter Katie Piper and Red Dwarf actor Danny John-Jules have also been revealed for this year’s series of the BBC One show.
