Stereotone at La Cheetah

It's clubs like La Cheetah that make Glasgow one of the top cities for partying in all of Europe.

Underground in both senses of the word, it looks completely unremarkable from Queen Street.

A neon light in the window of Max's Bar (it used to be called Max's Kansas City, a tribute to the famous Manhattan hangout of the '60s and '70s, when it launched in 2009,) is all that marks it out at street level.

Once you're in Max's, a dark staircase leads downstairs to the shoebox venue.

This is no place for the claustrophobic: it's tiny, and things get tight down there.

Still, there's an energy and spirit in the room that makes it special - this is no generic basement club.

When a couple of hundred sweaty punters are packed in here, enthusiastically losing their minds to some filthy underground techno DJ that only 26 people outside the room have heard of before, there are few places better to be.

Stereotone, a monthly Thursday night party here, was collaborating with Edinburgh-based night Partial when we went down. Stereotone's main man, Wheelman, went back to back with Ewan and Adler, spinning deep house, chopped-up techno, some elastic funk grooves and driving, bleepy electronica.

Every so often one of the DJs would hop-hop number with a ridiculously fat bass motif, rattling the venue's Funktion One soundsystem to the delight of the dancefloor.

Those who enjoy that kind of thing, and those who miss Chambre 69, need look no further for their bass fix.
