A WEEKEND that offers an unparalleled variety of club action kicks off tomorrow, when two of the biggest names in British dance music take over the O2 Academy for a Colours spectacular.

They are Carl Cox and John Digweed, the pioneering English DJs who helped bring acid house and techno to the masses during the ‘90s.

The “legend” tag doesn’t do either of these two justice: with countless Ibiza residencies, hit singles and festival appearances under their belts, it’s impossible to sum up how big they are.

Put simply, this is the techno equivalent of The Beatles and the Stones doing a co-headline gig. if you like electronic music, you have to be there - no excuses.

- Carl Cox and John Digweed, tomorrow, O2 Academy, 9pm – 3am, £25

Eight Years of Sunday Circus

Sunday Circus is a Glaswegian institution. It throws the most notoriously wild all-day parties in unique and obscure locations around the city, providing a vital outlet for those who simply don’t want to face up to the reality that Monday is around the corner.

They’ve now been going since 2007, and are marking the occasion with a special birthday show in the Merchant City’s Old Fruitmarket.

With a cracking lineup drafted in - Cologne DJ Michael Mayer, resident Petrichor and experimental electronica band Machines in Heaven make up the billing – this is a must for anyone who’s ever danced the afternoon away in The Courtyard’s imposing rear terrace, oblivious to the looming week ahead.

- Eight Years of Sunday Circus, Sunday, The Old Fruitmarket, 5pm – 1am, £15/£20

Pressure

Finnieston’s SWG3 continues to provide respite to the massive nights left homeless by The Arches’ untimely closure.

Tomorrow, Pressure and all that that entails makes the trek down Kelvinhaugh Street to set up shop at the city’s coolest warehouse club.

Guests in the warehouse include Brighton’s Baron of Techno, Dave Clarke and local duo Slam, while downstairs in the smaller Poetry Club, Animal Farm, Edit Select and Deepbass bring the unrelentingly gritty beats.

Then, on Saturday, Andrew Weatherall’s iconic night A Love From Outer Space returns north, with the usual high-quality house and weirder stuff guaranteed.

- Pressure with Dave Clarke, tomorrow, SWG3, 10.30pm – 3am, £17

- A Love From Outer Space, Saturday, Saturday, SWG3, 10.30pm – 3am, £9

Moskito Street Party

A superb lineup of local acts makes Moskito’s 15th birthday street party completely worth getting soaked for. Taking over the most northern block of Douglas Street, this outdoor knees-up combines the best alternative bands and rising DJs for a distinctly eclectic lineup that is befitting of Moskito’s all-inclusive vibe.

Alt-folk bedroom producer C Duncan, rootsy trio Three Blind Wolves and open mic sessions will keep the indie kids happy, but it’s in the DJs where this event looks super-tasty: Illyus and Barrientos, Melting Pot, Thunder Disco Club and Andrew Divine all feature across the weekend.

And on Saturday, Mash, Stevie Sole and Chris Harris go back-to-back for a triple threat set of classics from the last 15 years.

Best of all, none of it will cost you a penny.

Get in – or out, I should say.

Just down the street from all this, the refurbished and revitalised Saint Judes will be having its reopening party. Closed since February due to a flood, the much-loved venue now spans four floors of a Bath Street townhouse, and the new basement club Lola’s will be open five nights out of seven.

We’re looking forward to getting back in there in the next few weeks.

- Moskito’s 15th Birthday Street Party, Saturday and Sunday, 12pm – 3am, free

- Saint Judes Reopening Party, Friday and Saturday, 8pm – 1am, free

Southside Soul

A double bill of excellent events means that Southsiders with good music taste need not venture far from their doorstep this weekend.

On Saturday, veteran vinyl obsessive Stevie Watt spins classic soul at Southside Soul.

And those looking to shake off the hangover should head to The Rum Shack on Sunday, where Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and Den Haan are playing supremely groovy Italo disco all day long.

- Southside Soul, Saturday, Pollok Ex-Servicemen’s Club, 8pm – 1am, £5

- Italo Disco All Dayer, Sunday, The Rum Shack, 4pm – 12am, free
