Carl Cox

Two enormous gigs from two of dance music’s biggest personalities dominate this weekend’s clubbing landscape. After an unfortunate ankle fracture forced the postponement of his gig in August, British house and techno supremo Carl Cox is back in action at the O2 Academy tomorrow night. “I have always said, no matter what, that people make the party,” he told the Evening Times before his injury.

“No matter where I play in Scotland, it has always been the best it can possibly be. The Scottish crowd just go for it, they are just in it. As hard as I wanna go and as soft as I wanna go, the crowd follow me. They are a great crowd to play for and that is one of the best scenarios you can ever have." As endorsements go, those words are like the royal stamp on Glaswegian crowds. Good work, everyone.

Saturday’s biggest party takes place at SWG3, where Julio Bashmore is headlining. The Bristol-born house producer is touring in support of his debut album, Knockin’ Boots, which is heavily influenced by the mid 90s French touch scene.

“I was listening to Daft Punk back in 1997 and that was the starting point for me,” he said in a recent interview with The Guardian. “I soon found out that they were influenced by a lot of Chicago stuff, such as [Bidi’s 1995 single Rock]… when you hear it, it sounds like a French record back in the mid 90s. It’s what I think of when I think of the French house scene; chopped-up soul music.” Support comes from Rubadub Records’ Ryan Martin, who also runs Glasgow’s All Caps label.

· Carl Cox, tomorrow, O2 Academy, 9pm – 3am, £24.50

· Julio Bashmore, Saturday, SWG3, 10pm – 3am, £15

La Cheetah’s 6th Birthday

They make a big deal out of birthdays at La Cheetah. The Queen Street basement kicks off its marathon 6th birthday celebration tomorrow with a rerun of one of the club’s most memorable nights. Detroit minimal techno star Omar S absolutely laid waste to the tiny sweatbox back in May 2014, and now he’ll return to play a three-hour set tomorrow night. La Cheetah Club residents Wardy & Dom D’Sylva will be on hand to get the party started, and there’s a 4am license in place to fit all that goodness in.

For similar birthday vibes, Broadcast also hosts the first anniversary of disco night Mondo. They’ve got the globe-trotting Dicky Trisco down for a special set, with all the elastic basslines and chaos that entails.

And on Saturday, Sleaze are back at La Cheetah after two successful nights earlier this year. They have local underground techno man Hans Bouffmyhre closing, with Lex Gorrie in support. Things are going to get sweaty, no doubt about it.

· La Cheetah’s 6th Birthday, tomorrow, La Cheetah, 11pm – 4am, £13

· Hans Bouffmyhre, Saturday, La Cheetah, 11pm – 3am, £5

· Mondo’s 1st Birthday, tomorrow, Broadcast, 11pm – 3am, £5

Return to Mono

A double-header of tempting parties awaits at the Subbie this weekend, but what’s new there? Tomorrow night Slam celebrate the 11th anniversary of their monthly party Return to Mono, with techno pioneer Speedy J. A peer of Lauren Garnier, Aphex Twin and Richie Hawtin, Speedy J has been going since 1991 and dishes out the kind of take-no-prisoners techno that the Slam crowd lap up. On Sunday, continuing the French touch theme laid down by Julio Bashmore, it’s Dimitri From Paris who headlines at Fly Club. The Parisian producer lays down classic and obscure disco tracks all night long, with residents Joshua and Herd in support.

· Return to Mono 11th Birthday, tomorrow, Sub Club, 11pm – 3am, £12

· Dimitri From Paris, Sunday, Sub Club, 11pm – 3am, £15
