Hot Chip Official Afterparty

The volume of critical praise that was heaped upon Jamie xx’s debut album, In Colour, which was released in May, is difficult to overstate. A modern dance record that touches on rave, dancehall, jungle, garage and house, In Colour is club music for the introverted. There’s minimalism, melancholy and melodies among the euphoric madness of tracks like Gosh, with its simplistic synth break that changes the mood of the album just a few minutes in.

A steel drum intro makes Obvs sound downbeat and uplifting at the same time, while the longing, hushed vocals on SeeSaw are in contrast with the pulsing track. It’s an incredible album that can conceivably only sound better in a big room, in the small hours of the morning – the situation that it evokes. Originally scheduled for The Arches, this has been sold out for months and is probably going to be one of the gigs of the year.

You won’t be able to get a ticket through official channels, but you can still buy tickets for the pre-party, which is being held at a location only available to ticket holders.

As if that wasn’t enough introverted British electronic music for one weekend, there’s also the distinct pleasure of having Hot Chip in town tomorrow night. The lovable London nerds released their sixth album, Why Make Sense? earlier this year. With nods to classic electronica and trip hop rubbing shoulders with funky ‘80s riffs and disco beats, it combines dance and pop in a way that few other bands or artists can. Their live show is incredible: if you have a ticket, you are one of the lucky ones. “We turn up on time, play the hits. So come along, have some punctual fun. That’s the Hot Chip pledge,” said guitarist Al Doyle of their gigs. What more could you ask for? Their official post-show party is at Stereo, where you can catch a DJ set from the band themselves. Support comes from Hullabaloo residents Dom and Butsay.

The Highlander Ibiza Reunion

The point of going on holiday is to immerse yourself in a foreign country for a fortnight, soak up another culture, and come home a more interesting and travelled person, right? Wrong. Only nerds do that – a proper holiday is about going to Ibiza, getting full of it and spending two weeks in a Scottish pub, full of other Scottish people, eating chips and singing along to Runrig’s Loch Lomond every night. This eighth annual reunion brings together all the people who spent the summer doing just that for one night only, and features DJs Matt Finlay, Hannah Laing and Michael Paterson. It’s going to be great.

· Highlander Ibiza Reunion, Saturday, 10pm – 3am, £10

Ceephax Acid Crew

In the murky underground world of acid techno, Ceephax Acid Crew is something of a luminary. The Essex producer uses only analogue and early digital hardware, creating a racket that swerves wildly between old school house, drum and bass and head-melting gabber over the course of the night. He is the don of this extremely niche scene, so it is undoubtedly a big deal that he’s playing the tiny confines of The Flying Duck tomorrow. The similarly-minded Scotsman Egebamyasi brings the acid jams in support.

· Ceephax Acid Crew, tomorrow, The Flying Duck, 11pm – 3am, £9

Hot Dub Time Machine

Taking punters on a musical journey from 1954 to the present day, the Hot Dub Time Machine is a high-concept clubbing experience that gets cheesier the more you think about it. “It’s the best music of the last 60 years served up in a time-travelling audio-visual super party,” says the social media blurb, before serving up Rock Around the Clock and Skrillex as examples. I’m sure those are just examples and there will be better tunes on the night. If not, it's going to be like living those six decades in real-time.

· Hot Dub Time Machine, Saturday, The Garage, 11pm – 3am, £7
